Real Cuties Game Blog- Lost Odyssey, Part 2
So I have completed disc 2 of ‘Lost Odyssey’. I’m still no closer to being able to spell the title, but I’m getting into the game pretty nicely.
I’ve heard a lot of people say that disc 2 was where they gave up. And these are hardened gamers, with gamerscores way surpassing my own (I’m nearly on 5000g- I’m getting close to good score!). So I feel kinda proud I’m half way through the game. I’ve been playing now for just over 24 hours and although the majority of that must be cut scenes, its definitely the longest I’ve ever stuck to a solo game (the longest game play I’ve put in was co-op with the boyfriend on ‘Eternal Sonata’. Not sure how long we dedicated to that, but we’ve played it through twice and I absolutely love it even if it doesn’t give the second player- me- achievements.)
Disc 2 starts with you going on an immortal hunt. You kidnap Ming and she elects to join up with you pretty easily. Shes a really good character. Ok, so she doesn’t seem to want to use any of the skills I’ve set and she attacks like a girl, but her composite magic attacks are excellent. I need to level her up so she gets way stronger- she’ll be great. The other immortal is Sarah, and shes basically a Jansen/ Ming amalgamation. You defeat a witch who- shock horror- turns out to be her (like we didn’t all see that coming). That’s a horrible battle. She keeps changing the elements of the things you have to save her from, and I got very VERY annoyed and nearly quit. And at the end of all that I don’t really like Sarah so I’ve not used her much. She doesn’t bring anything new to the table, so shes not much use. Shes great for keeping back as a healer though- lots of mana points.
Cooke and Mack have also properly joined the party by disc 2. Mack is awesome. Hes a whinny sod in the cut scenes, but as a fighter he’s brilliant. Jansen is still my favourite character, but Mack is creeping into a very close second. The kids are spoilt by the crappy ‘lets give our Mum a good funeral’ section at the beginning though. I want to fight monsters, not light a freaking torch and make sure there’s enough white flowers in the goddam’ funeral boat!

(I do like the Lady of Shallot/ Ophelia reference though- made me feel all intellectual).
Not much happens again on disc 2. You find the immortals and head off to stop a war as well as trying to track down Gongora (the evil dude) to try get your memories back. When you eventually find him, he kicks your arse (tip- in that battle don’t even try to kill him- five turns and he blasts you anyway) and leaves you to die.
This triggers the most annoying part of the game. Trying to run out of the rapidly disintegrating building. You get twelve minutes to escape. Its doable in maybe four if you know the way, but trying to find it is highly unfun. I got out with 30 seconds to spare. Plus you keep getting attacked on the way. Why did they add that in?! Noone is going to stick around and fight (you spam the ‘flee’ command!) so why bother including it?! There was another bit that really pissed me off as well. You’re in some caves at one point, and there’s holes in the floor. You fall down one, it takes you back to the beginning section. Fair enough, its fine. Then it happens a hundred times and you begin to want to find the games developers, bend them over, and shove disc 2 so far up their bums that it’ll never be playable again.
Or maybe thats just me. I am easily annoyed when it comes to games.
I’m still enjoying ‘Lost Odyssey’ but the difficulty curve is starting to really hit now. The fights are getting much harder. If I could have one extra person in my formation that’d be perfect, but I don’t know if they increase the formation size from five or not. We’ll see.

(I’ve not met these guys and there’re only five fighters. And it looks like crappy prince boy joins you too… crap).
The save points seem to be getting fewer too. At the beginning they were in also most every section, now you’re lucky to find one before the boss fight. I’m an obsessive saver, and its been way more than once that I’ve actually shouted for joy at the sight of an orange orb on my map!
Two more discs to go. Half way through the game and feeling good about myself. I’ll actually be pretty damned chuffed to finish it, and show I can do real games, not just play ‘Lips’ and follow someone else as they do everything in co-op. That’s what drives me on when it gets close to quitting time…
Achievements- 6 out of 42 (360 gamer points)
Currently aiming for- ‘Surfacing’ achievement; ‘Treasure Trove’ achievement; ‘No ones this perfect’ achievment’; trying to not get too annoyed by the tedious bits.
Favourite bit- I’m still actually enjoying the story. Even with that crappy sentimental Mum death bit.
Least favourite bit- The levels you have to do over and over and over…
